Beauty Blooming

Makeup trends have changed through the decade. It’s time we examine the way are changing in this Recession. My good friend Zoey recently had the income to invest in a lip blush and a perm. She was so excited to get these done, as they were long time wants. It got a conversation started within our friend group, about what beauty investments can we make to make our lives easier?

The Zoey method is a good way to pay one lump sum, and enjoy it for a while. I don't have the funds for a larger one time investment, and I'm too indecisive. She however was a model before the cosmetic additions and afterwards she would put many at Vouge to shame. Now though she has very little maintenance in the mornings given just the two changes. According to her she can "roll out of bed and go", of which I will always be jealous. If you can save enough, have a birthday/holiday coming up, and are certain of these choices then this might be a perfect method for you. This type of beauty addition is a longer term makeup decision, known as 'high maintenance to be low maintenance'. A perm usually lasts 3-6 months and lip blush lasts 2 years on average with touch ups. I can not stress enough how absolutely stunning this friend was before these two additions, and how happy these made her.

If you aren't able to take this route then my method (K method) may be more your speed. I am high maintenance enough to do daily maintenance, but not decisive enough to stick to longer term cosmetics. I also have incredibly sensitive skin and have to be very selective with products used on my face. I'll use Neutrogena sunscreen and Cetaphil in the daytime to protect against the sun. Outside of that, I keep it simple for makeup. I do drug store Elf blush and mascara because I don't like to overdo it. This routine is super standard and works for me individually, but may work for you as well.

Finally the Dot Method, which is similar to mine in almost every way. She has a natural rose to her cheeks so her daily routine is mainly just mascara. She also has almost jealously clear skin so foundation isn't a huge need. I won't dive too deep into the products she uses but focus on the flare. She may not use an eyelash serum but she has an incredible cat eye shape. She’ll use false eyelashes to emphasize them. When the false lashes break out, they are typically Kiss Falsacara lashes. This ‘Dot’ method is very simplistic with the occasional flare.

The Zoey, K, or Dot methods show a wide range of comfort with makeup and values of time. The methods where aren’t all encompassing of theses individuals. Makeup or skincare is subjective because it goes on your skin which is the most individual thing about anyone. Please pick and choose to make it as individualistic as possible, and break every 'rule' in the makeup book.
