RAINY DAY

When the political climate is worse off than the enviornmental one, it can be hard to find little joys. I have been a big binge watcher as of late so I feel like the expert to advise. In the eyes of TV subscriptions I try and keep it extremely cheap, and ethical as possible. The tech overlords don’t make this easy. For this reporter the ethical line is a Disney+ and Hulu bundle that is relatively cheap.

Keeping in mind my subscription list, please note these may not be on your services. The top of my list though, is Gravity Falls which was cut too short. It was alive for two seasons on Disney Channel and created by Alex Hirsch. It was incredibly complex and multi-layered for a show originally aimed at children. This is on my re-watch list every time! The original creators have teased for years the idea of a third season where Mabel and Dipper, revisit their gruncle. To find out why they left in the first place you need to watch the series. My top three episodes for this series would be Summerween, Boss Mabel, and Carpet Diem. Let me know if you give them a watch!

In the eyes of Hulu I appreciate ‘The Animaniacs’ reboot for the humor laced in the episodes. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Season 1 Episode 6 is the Warner take on the aliens in the oceans. It is a funny idea of how we would interact with the aliens that came from the sky.

  • Season 1 Episode 7 is about the French Revolution and it reflects the way the world looks now. It feels like a gentle way to take in the craziness of the world.

  • Season 1 Episode 10 jokes about artistic integrity being taken by Russia. It shows how the Warners fight back and we get to live vicariously through them.

A close second runner would be Abbott Elementary just because of Jeanie! I found such a representation of going into something so bright eyed and busy tailed, and having life change it up. In the show she fights back even against an underfunded school system. She seems to find issues at every turn so she has to get very creative with her problem solving. As someone who is in a deep red state it can feel that way at times. Her creative thought process has encouraged me in my activism. The actress, Quinta Brunson, who plays her came from Buzzfeed and the growth of her career has been beautiful to watch.

If you ever needing encouragement to community bond then these ones are your best bet:

  • Golden Girls is genuinely how I want my golden years to end out. I swear these sassy gals will give you excitement to meet your new best friends. We also see complex and dynamic changes in friendships and relationships, as these ladies try to live out their golden years. As government services get cut then your may take notes on how to deal with your parent. Sophia Patrello will make you happy she isn’t your mother.

  • Designing Women is a southern version of the Golden Girls. If you ever want to meet this author in real life, imagine a shorter version of Julia Sugarbaker with red hair. This group of ladies highlights starting a small business, racist ideologies, and nuisance surrounding women’s sexual rights.

These first two have been set in the 1980s which can reflect some things we see in today’s world with the crazy way things are going.

These shows are some of my favorites, I always come back to watch. In the realm of movies Alice and Wonderland is my favorite cartoon, given the Cheshire cat. Heist movies are best in terms of action and the best for me is Oceans Eleven. I hope these recommendations make your rainy days a little brighter. If you watch any of these or all, please let me know your thoughts.
