Red Rose Rarities

There are not a lot of times on this newsletter we get to celebrate republicans, and this is one of those few times. Bill Lee signed the Fertility Treatment and Contraceptive Protection Act into law on April 28th against the 37 no votes from Republicans. He also signed this into law against eleven dear colleague letters asking him not to sign the bill. We can celebrate our win while still glaring at the winner with distrust. The now law protects IVF, condoms, and the morning after pill in one clean sweep.

Gov. Lee may have done this as a political move, given the election year. No matter the reasoning for the signature it is now there and we can take a sigh of relief. To better understand the significance of this, we should revisit those dear colleague letters. I think the wording of it affected me more than I realized because I didn't realize the extent grown adults would go to in order to get their way. WKRN quoted the letter as saying “If we, as a government, authorize the slaughter of even one innocent life, God will judge us collectively,” this initially should alarm everyone. This suggest that our government think of itself as one entity that is directed by "God". I put the title in air quotes because the reference to this is so vague. I can't imagine a Christian God guiding this action.

The letter continues by saying, "The power to save lies in your hands," which is a lot to put on one man. I am not giving Bill Lee a free pass to make bad choices; but it is serious to be putting multiple eternal souls into the hands of one man. This is where I can not fathom a Christian God guiding these members or this letter. This brings the question of, who wrote it?

If you see your representative in this list, be sure to let them know how you feel about them being on this list. I truly hope Rep. Chris Todd (R-Madison County),  Rep. Scott Cepicky (R-Culleoka), Rep. Jody Barrett (R-Dickson), Rep. Monty Fritts (R-Kingston), Rep Michele Reneau (R-Signal Mountain), Rep. Timothy Hill (R-Blountville), Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill), Rep. Aron Maberry (R-Clarksville), Rep. Kip Capley (R-Summertown), Rep. Brock Martin (R-Huntington), and Rep. Ed Butler (R-Rickman), have Satan's ass cheek for a pillow every night. These eleven signed off on a dear colleagues letter to stop this, now law. The representative from Brentwood said the quiet out loud when he argued the morning after pill, would "create(s) a statutory right to create and destroy human embryos without limitation" (WKRN). This shows Republicans will not be happy will women have to carry every baby to term, no matter the method of conceiving. Take notice how Johnny Garret (R-Goodlettsville) isn't on the list of those who signed, because he knew better!

The intense pressure would have made many break, but not Bill this time. He stood up to the 'no' votes and colleague letters. No matter the reason for it, this law protects women everywhere. This also sets us up well for the next Governor as they won't be likely to reverse or veto the law. This newsletter is keeping eyes on any democratic candidates for Governor, but none have spoken out yet. We're celebrating this win but keeping a watchful eye out on this party as the next year continues.
